If you weren’t at the Friends of the Mansion’s Boots and Bandanas gala on October 8th, were you even really part of the Oklahoma Republican Club?
Let’s be honest. Every pony in the next GOP race was there, trotting through the stables of self-importance. The Governor’s “cabana” sparkled with starched denim, turquoise jewelry, and the kind of old-money cologne you cannot buy—you inherit it.
Governor Kevin Stitt made his predictable entrance, followed by a parade of past and present power brokers. Frank Keating, the Hefners, and a herd of legacy names mingled in a scene that could have doubled as a Pioneer Woman family reunion. At one point, a belt-buckle showdown broke out, which is about as Oklahoma as it gets. Rumor has it the winner’s trophy could be measured in ounces of inherited influence.
Of course, Jeff Starling and Chip Keating were both in attendance, looking sharp, flashing smiles, and perfecting their “just folks” handshakes. The real question, though, was who wore the role of rising star better. Both men came polished by money, family name, and a well-timed campaign whisper.
Now, don’t get us wrong. A Western soirée has its charm. But with so many political stallions in one corral, it is hard not to wonder—
Is there room for a new horse in this race?
Or are we simply watching another round of well-heeled insiders grooming one another for the next big gig, their family fortunes trotting alongside?
What say you, Oklahoma? Are we ready for a political outsider willing to trade a lucrative private-sector career for public service, or are we content with the same herd wearing shinier boots?
🤠 The mics are off, but the talk never stops.
